Q&A with

Sofitel London St James

  • Food & Beverage is taken seriously at Sofitel London St James. Begin your evening in the cinematic St James Bar, where standout drinks like the banana-peel Rum Old Fashioned, the bold and tropical Better Life, or the citrusy, refined Suzette can all be enjoyed as either cocktails or mocktails. Then, step into the Michelin-starred world of Anthony Demetre at Wild Honey St James, where signature dishes such as the hand-dived Orkney scallop with XO sauce, the indulgent Sutton Hoo chicken with truffle cacio e pepe, and the classic custard tart delight guests night after night.

  • From Boardroom to Bespoke – Lear’s London Journey at Sofitel St James

After more than a decade of hosting their Annual General Meeting domestically, Lear, a leading U.S.-based automotive innovator, decided to mark a year of exceptional success by taking their leadership team — accompanied by spouses — on a celebratory journey abroad. Their destination: London, and their chosen home: Sofitel London St James.

The brief was clear — this was not just another AGM. It was an opportunity to blend business with pleasure, and create meaningful memories for a group unfamiliar with the city. From the moment of arrival, every detail was anticipated to ensure the group felt both comfortable and cared for. In each of the 50 guest rooms, we placed personalised care packages, including UK adaptors, welcome letters, stay information, and even illustrated shower instructions — a small touch that was met with appreciation, particularly given the differences in plumbing standards between the U.S. and the U.K.

While the C-level attendees focused on their meetings, their spouses were immersed in a curated London experience, coordinated entirely by our concierge team. From private shopping sessions at Fortnum & Mason — complete with personal shoppers and chauffeured cars — to spa days at Sofitel Spa and elegant lunches at some of the city's most coveted restaurants, every moment was designed to feel effortless and refined.

Once the AGM concluded, couples were reunited for a series of experiences that brought the magic of London to life. A private boat cruise along the Thames, walking tours of the historic St James’s area, and the most memorable moment of all — an exclusive, after-hours tour of the National Gallery. Thanks to our longstanding relationships, we were able to fully privatise the visit. One of our own concierges accompanied the group on foot from the hotel, turning the journey itself into a guided cultural immersion.

The group departed with deep appreciation and lasting memories — so much so that they returned just two months later, this time to enjoy the festive charm of the hotel and the city, reconnecting with the service, warmth, and attention to detail that had made their first visit so memorable.

At Sofitel London St James, it was more than a meeting. It was a story worth repeating.

  • The Sofitel London St James spa, uniquely set within the hotel’s historic bank vault, offers a tranquil sanctuary blending luxury and heritage. Guests can enjoy signature treatments like Su-Man’s “facelift in an hour” facial, and Sothys therapies, designed to rejuvenate and relax. When not used for wellness, this iconic space can transform into an intimate private dining venue, providing a truly unique and memorable experience.

  • Sofitel London St James celebrates its location by combining the historic charm of its 1912 Grade II-listed former bank building with elegant French-inspired design. Its Michelin-starred restaurant highlights seasonal British ingredients prepared with classic French techniques, while partnerships with local producers like Le Fromagerie and luxury French brands such as Diptyque deepen its connection to both London and Paris. This blend of heritage, cuisine, and collaboration creates a distinctive luxury experience rooted in place.

  • With the essence of Joie de Vivre, Sofitel leverages its brand-led Cousu Main programme to create bespoke amenities tailored to the objectives of every incentive programme. We further enrich experiences with artisanal moments through our Haute Croissanterie programme, bringing personalised craftsmanship to life. This attention to detail is at the heart of what we do, which is why the hotel has proudly won the Sofitel “Emotional Connection Award” for two consecutive years—ensuring every event is truly unforgettable.

  • Before becoming Sofitel London St James, the building was home to Cox’s and King’s Bank, which—at one time—was the largest bank in Europe. Its prime St James’s location made it a financial hub for an elite clientele, including members of the Royal Family and Winston Churchill. Churchill’s famously extravagant spending through the bank became so legendary that it inspired the book, “No More Champagne”.

  • Planners who know the property well often unlock its best-kept secrets. The syndicate tucked behind Westminster transforms effortlessly into a private war room for behind-the-scenes coordination, while Belgravia, right at the heart of our meeting suites, becomes the perfect command centre. Guests arrive discreetly through our dedicated Groups & Events entrance, while the grand foyer outside our ballrooms offers a natural stage for your welcome desk and first impressions. Our best tip? Booking access the day before. It gives you space to breathe, test AV, refine the flow with our ops team, and ensure every detail aligns. And because every piece of furniture in our event spaces can be moved or removed, the layout becomes yours to shape — no compromise, just possibility.

  • Sofitel London St James is a certified EarthCheck Silver and Green Key Hotel and thinks a lot about what it’s “handprint” should be in the sustainable luxury market. We do our best to run an eco-conscious operation by having a zero single use plastic policy and investing in ORCA and Orbisk SMART food waste technologies, in addition to running energy-efficient systems and supporting local biodiversity through our rooftop beehives. Our catering uses locally sourced, seasonal ingredients where possible and right now we’re working on a low carbon MICE menu. Hosting an event here means aligning with a venue that actively reduces its environmental footprint while maintaining exceptional service and style.
