Q&A with
The Dorchester

The Dorchester has played host to many legendary events and in turn, guests since the hotel opened in 1931. From the British royal family including her late majesty the Queen, and Prince Phillip who held his Bachelor Party in The Park Suite, to Hollywood royalty such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sean Connery and Stevie Wonder who performed on Liberace’s piano in The Promenade for a couple who were getting married at the hotel.

We had a first-time guest arrive to the hotel after a 14-hour flight from the US although unfortunately his suitcase did not arrive with him. He had mentioned to our reception team that he was waiting to hear from the airline as to when his luggage would arrive at Heathrow in order to collect it. In the interim, our concierge team went to purchase essential items for the guest to make his trip as manageable as possible. 3 days later, the guest was informed that his luggage had arrived at Heathrow, and he planned to collect it at the end of his day. However, our concierge decided to take the house car and go to the airport themselves, looking through all the lost and found luggage to locate it and bring it back to the hotel to surprise the guest. Whilst this was happening, the guest was given a complimentary afternoon tea and upon concluding the service, arrived back to his room to find his luggage waiting for him. This guest was so amazed by this level of service and grateful for the gesture that he has been returning to The Dorchester every year since.

Hidden in the heart of the hotel kitchens, The Wine Vault is a modern, intimate space dedicated to the celebration of great wine. Over a thousand bottles await your discovery here, under the expert guidance of our sommelier. The Chef’s Table is an inspiring journey through taste, set in a place of extraordinary history. Tucked away in the heart of our hotel, this exclusive dining space can welcome up to 12 guests. The glass wall can be made transparent for a behind-the-scenes view into the kitchen, or opaque for dining in complete privacy.

Steeped in London’s history and newly transformed, The Dorchester’s recent renovation has reimagined its iconic ground floor and elevated its elegant rooms and suites to new heights of luxury. Located in the heart of Mayfair, many rooms and suites offer views of leafy Hyde Park. The Dorchester is also home to some of London’s finest dining experiences, including The Grill for modern British cuisine, the three-Michelin-starred Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, and the iconic Cantonese favourite China Tang at The Dorchester. The Promenade, a British institution, serves up a quintessentially British afternoon tea – then, after dinner, Vesper Bar invites guests to enjoy signature cocktails crafted by master mixologists in a chic, sophisticated setting.

We create tailor made experiences and bespoke activities for all MICE groups. Within the main kitchen, we offer a Chef’s Table experience through an elevated style dinner all curated by our Head Chef, Mario, who will create a very interactive experience. We can also host kitchen parties, in our main kitchen which is the size of 8 tennis courts and is the largest in the hotel. We offer live cooking stations, a DJ, seafood displays, a variety of masterclasses including pizza, pasta, festive, cocktail and pastry. We will provide embroider aprons and chefs’ hats as part of the event. We have a wine cellar for pre-drinks and the chef will be present to provide detailed intel on the wine. In addition to this, our bartenders in the Vesper Bar like to create interactive experiences with the guests by gathering scent preferences and creating bespoke cocktails.

The Dorchester’s story is one which began in 1931 and continues to unfold today, as every guest makes their mark on the hotel’s ever-evolving legacy. To signify the opening the hotel, The Dorchester planted a tree in the courtyard, which today is nearly 100 years old and now recognized as one of the ‘Great Trees of London’ for its size, beauty and landmark of status. It’s a cherished part of the hotel’s identity, often illuminated at night and featured in cultural programs. In 2011, The Dorchester celebrated its 80th birthday by planting 80 new trees across London as a green legacy inspired by our iconic tree.

We recognize the impact we make on society, the economy and the planet, and aim to make a positive difference in the places we operate, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. That’s why environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) aren’t simply pillars that guide us – it’s who we are. We commit to creating a positive impact on our people, guests, and communities. We ensure that our business practices remain ethical and responsible as we step boldly into the next chapter of our journey. We actively contribute to the fight against climate change. By focusing on preserving vital resources like water, biodiversity, and ecosystems, we aim to create a more sustainable future, ensuring these life-giving elements are safeguarded for generations to come. Dorchester Collection’s bespoke bathroom products, crafted by Wildsmith's understanding of science, nature and sustainability, reflect each destination’s essence with custom fragrances. By switching to refillable, hand-cast porcelain bottles, we prevent the use of over 723,000 single-use plastic bottles annually.

Around 95% of all produce used in the kitchens of The Dorchester is sourced from here in the UK
On the 80th birthday of The Dorchester, 80 trees were planted in Mayfair to support our local community
We have recently invested in cardboard, full recyclable water bottles as opposed to using plastic bottles in guestrooms as well as our spas
Recycling is very much on top of our priority list:
Furniture is gifted to local charities following refurbishments
Any coats and jackets left at the hotel are donated to relevant charities (e.g. Only a Pavement Away)
Left over food from events is given to night staff or donated to local communities & charities
