Barbara Walters, Madonna, Joan Collins, George Bush Sr, Bianca Jagger, Cher, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Johnny Depp, Michael Bolton, Mariah Carey and Pamela Anderson were amongst the many celebrities and dignitaries who stayed at The Lanesborough during its earliest days. Stanley Kubric used The Royal Suite to shoot Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in ‘Eyes Wide Shut’. Stevie Wonder has played on The Library Bar’s piano, all of which aided The Lanesborough to establish a reputation as a ‘home away from home’.

A hidden oasis tucked away from the bustle of Hyde Park Corner, the Garden Room is The Lanesborough’s, and indeed Knightsbridge’s, best kept secret. Surrounded by lush greenery, the outdoor covered cigar terrace is open year-round with a fireplace, heaters and blankets to keep guests warm on colder evenings.
Alongside an impressive selection of Cuban and pre-Castro cigars presented in the celebrated walk-in humidor, the Garden Room offers cocktails, spirits, fine wines and Champagnes, light dishes served until late, and cigar masterclasses.

Being part of Oetker Hotels, a group which operates hotels in the world’s most desirable destinations, location and heritage are an integral part of a stay at The Lanesborough. With deep devotion to local culture and community, our team preserves the tradition of legendary European hospitality and genuine family spirit.
The Lanesborough, a timeless Regency icon, was originally built as an elegant country mansion overlooking Hyde Park by James Lane, second and last Viscount Lanesborough, in 1719. By 1825, the house was in a poor state and at this time, respected architect William Wilkins, best known for his designs of famous buildings including the National Gallery, was commissioned to redesign the building. Wilkins employed classical Greek revival styles, which were hallmarks of the Regency period, many of which can still be enjoyed today. Originally opening its doors as a luxury hotel in the early 90s, The Lanesborough was renovated in 2015 under the helm of esteemed interior designer, Alberto Pinto, who was tasked with reflecting the signature style of the hotel and honouring the building's architectural heritage as one of London's most revered Regency landmarks, whilst incorporating the latest in contemporary luxury and technology. The project marked one of Pinto's final ventures before he passed away in 2012 and guests can see his legacy live on at The Lanesborough.
The Lanesborough is home to a collection of over 2,000 pieces of original Regency period artwork, including works by Sir Joshua Reynolds, one of England’s greatest 18th-century
artists. In an exciting juxtaposition to this historic collection, The Lanesborough Art programme, presented in The Lanesborough Grill, showcases modern art by young British artist Lucas Console-Verma.British provenance forms the basis of our menus at The Lanesborough. Executive Chef Shay Cooper champions regional artisans and sources the very best seasonal produce from around the country and from coast to coast.
Examples of local and regional partnerships include festive shopping experiences with Harrods, a Knightsbridge stalwart of luxury and our neighbour; as well as British wine growers such as Gusbourne and Chapel Down, and British wellness brands at The Lanesborough Club & Spa, such as ila, who create all-natural products by hand in the Cotswolds.

Lovers of fine spirits will appreciate The Library Bar’s liquid library, The Lanesborough Paradis , a collection of some of the rarest and finest cognacs and whiskies in the world, some dating back to the 18th century.
A more widely known fact, but nonetheless surprising and delightful, is that The Lanesborough is home to resident house cat Lilibet, a very friendly six-year old Siberian forest cat, named after Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Having a house cat has become somewhat of a trademark within Oetker Hotels – our sister hotels Le Bristol in Paris and Brenners Park-Hotel in Baden-Baden are also home to house cats.

The Lanesborough team know - from first-hand experience - the dangers of ignoring persistent heartburn, having had two very painful run-ins with cancer of the oesophagus in the last few years. Since 2021, we are proud to work with the team at Heartburn Cancer UK, our nominated charity and one of the leading charities raising awareness of cancer of the oesophagus and its pre-cancerous condition, Barret's oesophagus. With the generous support of our guests, we have helped HCUK purchase and set up mobile diagnostic units, which tour the country and make a new detection test called the Cytosponge more readily available in the community.
